3         How to

3.1       Start Communication

The connection is via USB interface. The device implements Virtual COM Port (VCP) interface, it appears as a serial port. The device driver should be installed automatically when the device is first connected. The Windows operating system assigns a unique COM port during the installation. If more than one device is used on a single computer, each device has a different port number assigned. The assigned COM port can be changed in Device Manager.

1.       Connect the device using USB to your computer

2.       Wait for driver installation

3.       Start the application

4.       Select the correct serial port

5.       Click Connect

Note: If there are many COM ports available on the computer, the following procedure can be used to determine the right one:

1.       Connect the device to the computer (or disconnect if it has been already connected)

2.       Update the list of available ports

3.       Check out what port appears in the list (or disappears)

3.2       Update Firmware

The actual firmware is available for download at FIRVENA website (https://www.firvena.com/en/input-output-module-with-mp-bus-communication/p-28/).

1.       Download the firmware file

2.       Connect the device

3.       Open the firmware file (dragging the file into the Firmware update box also works)

4.       Use Upload button to write the file into the device

5.       Use Restart button to reboot the device

6.       Disconnect the USB cable for a while

Now the device performs reprogramming, wait until the green PWR LED shines again.

7.       Start communication

8.       Check the firmware version
